Diahann Carroll and Sidney Poitier on the set of Paris Blues (1961). Poitier and Carroll had a very publicized affair but according to Ms. Carroll he had promised to divorce his wife for her if she divorced her husband for him. Well, she did divorce her husband at the time (Monte Kay) and then Sidney had a change of heart and ended his relationship with Diahann and went back to his wife.
